Based in Tucson, Arizona, Retina Associates is guided by Dr. Cameron Javid and provides a host of eyecare services. Among the areas in which Dr. Cameron Javid and the Retina Associates team have extensive knowledge is uveitis. Uveitis is caused by inflammation which may be secondary to other conditions in the body. Infections maybe a cause amd rarely cancer.
With the eye having the shape of a tennis ball, three distinct tissue layers surround the gel-filled cornea, which lies at the center of the eye. The innermost is the retina, which has light sensing and image-to-brain sending capacities. The outermost layer is the sclera, which provides a white wall barrier.
In between these layers is the uvea, which is filled with blood vessels that transport blood and nourishment to various parts of the eye. When the uvea is inflamed eyesight can be damaged, with symptoms including blurred vision, redness of the eye, light sensitivity, and floaters. In certain cases, what is thought to be redeye may turn out to be uveitis.
In cases where the eye is painful or red for an extended period of time, schedule an examination and treatment by an ophthalmologist. This is critical, as untreated inflammation can lead to blindness or permanently impaired sight.
